The Cobra and the Crows Story for Kids
(A Panchatantra Tale — Wisdom Wins Over Strength)
Once upon a time, a pair of crows lived on a big banyan tree. They had built a warm and cozy nest. It was their happy home.
But inside the hollow of the same tree lived a black cobra. Whenever the mother crow laid eggs, the cobra climbed up and ate them. The crows were very sad and helpless.
One day, the crows flew to a clever jackal living nearby. They told him everything and asked for help. The jackal said, “Do not worry. Even strong enemies can be defeated with a smart plan.”
The jackal then explained a clever idea to get rid of the cobra.
He said, “Fly to the king’s city. Look for something shiny and valuable. Pick it up and fly slowly so that the royal guards chase you. Then drop it near the cobra’s hole.”
“When the guards come to take it back, they will see the cobra and kill it.”
The crows agreed. They flew to the royal city and saw princesses swimming near a lake. Their golden necklaces and pearl jewelry lay on the bank, watched by guards.
The female crow swooped down and picked up a shiny golden necklace. The guards shouted and ran after her.
The crow flew slowly and dropped the necklace right in front of the cobra’s hole. The guards arrived quickly and saw the cobra crawl out. They attacked to retrieve the necklace.
The wicked cobra was finally killed.
Now the crows were safe at last. Soon they had new babies in their warm nest. They lived happily with their beautiful family.
