The Elephant and the Sparrows story for kids
(A Sweet Lesson on Teamwork)
In a big, green forest, on a tall and strong tree, lived a sparrow mother and father in their small, round nest.
The nest was soft, cozy, and full of leaves because they were waiting happily for their little babies to arrive. The sparrow mother had laid eggs and both were very excited.
🌞 A Very Hot Day
One morning, the sun was shining very brightly. It was so hot that all the animals in the forest were troubled.
On the same day, a big, heavy elephant also became restless because of the heat. He became angry and started bumping into trees—
Dhadam! Thapak! Dhad-dhad! The trees shook as he walked.
🐘 The Elephant Broke the Tree
While bumping around, the elephant reached the same big tree where the sparrows lived.
The elephant pushed the tree hard and Crackkk! the branch with the sparrows’ nest broke and fell.
The nest dropped to the ground and all the eggs cracked. The sparrow mother’s heart broke with sadness. She cried loudly, “My babies… my little babies…”
🐦 The Woodpecker Arrives
A woodpecker was sitting on a nearby tree, pecking “tak-tak-tak.” When he heard the sparrow crying, he flew to her and said:
“Dear sparrow, don’t cry. We will do something together.”
🪰 They Meet the Fly Friend
The woodpecker took the sparrow to meet his friend, the fly.
The fly buzzed kindly and said, “I will help too! Together we will stop that naughty elephant.”
🐸 The Frog’s Clever Plan
All three friends flew to meet their wise old friend, the frog. He was sitting peacefully on cool, wet soil.
He listened carefully, thought for a moment, and said:
“The elephant is big, but he is alone. And we are four friends!”
Then he explained his cute plan—
- Fly — “You will buzz in his ears when the sun is very hot.”
- Woodpecker — “You will peck his eyes lightly so he cannot see.”
- Frog — “I will sit near the pit and croak loudly, ‘Ribbit-Ribbit’.”
- Sparrow — “You will guide everyone and tell the right time.”
🎯 The Plan Works!
All the friends worked together. The fly buzzed in the elephant’s ears— Bzzzz… Bzzzz… The elephant got irritated.
The woodpecker flew close and— Tak!— pecked his eyes gently. Now the elephant was hot, thirsty, and unable to see properly.
The frog started croaking loudly, “Ribbit! Ribbit!” The elephant thought, “Ah! Water must be there!” He followed the sound and Dhadam!! fell into a big mud pit.
Now he could not harm anyone. The sparrow finally felt relieved and safe.
✨ Moral of the Story
When friends work together, even the smallest ones can solve big problems.
